Writing is still one of the best ways I know to tell a story, whether it’s for your business, a cause you believe in, or just for fun. Of course, with the rise of social media, we can now add audiovisual elements like video and imagery to enhance our storytelling, but the written word still underpins it all.

AI is undeniably a game-changer for producing written content. With just a few prompts, you can produce a near-perfect expression of what you want to write in seconds. But however perfect the output appears, it will always lack that special sauce. You.

I know many people who are resolute in using AI for content because it saves time, and in many instances, money, as there’s less of a need to outsource the writing work.

But the truth is, with or without AI, writing takes time.

Words are like currency, and worth investing time in

If you care about your words, how you use them and the effect they have on others, you will take the time to draft and redraft your writing, however long it takes. Because out of the ashes of endless drafts can come something that’s unique, that is you, and, what’s more, invites your audience in.

Your audience wants to hear from YOU. They want your expertise, your thoughts and opinions, and your leadership on the topics you write about. They don’t want generic thoughts and ideas they can easily Google or prompt AI to generate.

So invest your time. Write your first draft, get your thoughts out, read, re-read, edit, redraft, edit again, get another pair of eyes on it, whatever it takes. If you’re using AI, argue with it and challenge it until the final draft you publish accurately reflects who you are, and not the perfectly polished version AI ‘thinks’ you should be.

Your words are like currency, so invest and spend wisely.
