Yesterday, I started the day with the full intention of writing a post, job hunting, and brainstorming some content ideas, but when it came down to it, I thought, ” Today is not that day.”

Friends, I was tired, and with the best will in the world, I didn’t have it in me to do everything or anything. So I didn’t. I listened to my body and my spirit and said okay. My mind was screaming: ‘But you need to find a job, you need to write that cover letter, you need to write this blog post’.

True, but I also needed to rest.

The last couple of weeks have been quite intense. I was preparing for a final interview, for which I also had to do an assessment. Then, after the interview, I had to catch up on what I had set aside to focus on interview prep. By the beginning of this week, my mental and emotional energy was low, but I ignored the signs and pushed through anyway.

I had to remind myself that I don’t have to earn my rest or be deserving of taking time off. What I do need is to reset and recalibrate. Today may not be that day, but guess what? Tomorrow is another day.

So, I took the day off and rested. I’m not saying I did nothing all day, though that could have been an option. I just did stuff that used another part of my brain. I cooked, exercised, watched TV, amused myself with Kendrick Lamar vs Drake memes and played games on my phone. When the evening arrived, I felt refreshed and decided to draft this post.

Rest is essential. Regardless of your occupation, build in time to rest, and I don’t mean your lunch break or your weekends. Rest doesn’t mean you’re lazy or don’t take work seriously; it means you understand the importance of giving your mind and body a chance to reset and continue.
